The Health Goal
The EPA sets Maximum Contaminant Level Goals (MCLGs) for lead, PFAS, and TTHMs at zero. This means the scientific consensus is that no amount is safe for developing brains.
Legal is Not Safe
Federal legal limits (MCLs) are a compromise between health goals and treatment feasibility. Water that meets the legal standard can still contain contaminants at levels that concern researchers.
